Guitarist/composer/music educator Jeff Putterman lives in Portland, Oregon. A jazz guitar instructor at Portland State University from 2004 to present, Jeff was formerly on faculty at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. His teaching career also includes twenty years of directing bands and guitar classes in Portland metro area schools.    

Jeff’s educational background has been both extensive and varied, having earned a BA in Philosophy from the University of Maine, a guitar performance degree from the Musicians Institute, and an MAT in music from Lewis & Clark College. Additionally Jeff credits his early guitar/music mentors, the late Larry Wooldridge and bebop master Joe Diorio.


Jeff has performed as a solo artist, guitarist/accompanist, sideman and band leader. His recordings span four decades and present a unique mix of original compositions that blend classic and progressive jazz and eclectic music styles. Titles include:  Hand Made(1983), Quartet ’97(released 2020), You Are What You Are(2009) and Jeff’s latest releases Solo 7String 2020 and Solo 7String 2021, both recorded on 7string classical guitar.
